Texas Opens College World Series Final Tonight Against LSU

It's a college baseball clash of the titans as Texas takes on LSU tonight in the finals of the College World Series in Omaha.

The traditional powers have combined for 11 national titles and both have reached the best-of-three final series without losing a game in Omaha. Tonight's game begins at 6 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN2.

LSU, the No. 3 national seed, did everything well as the Tigers cruised through their side of the bracket, pounding out nine home runs and averaging more than 10 runs per game in their three CWS victories.

Texas, the No. 1 national seed, has had a bit more drama in their three tournament victories. First was a come-from-behind victory against Southern Miss in the opening round, as Texas scored the winning run with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth. The Longhorns then game back from a 6-0 deficit to score 10 unanswered runs and beat Arizona State, then had to defeat the Sun Devils again to advance to the final. In that game, Texas got home runs from Cameron Rupp and Connor Rowe to rally in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-3 win.

Chance Ruffin (10-2, 3.27 ERA) will start tonight for the Longhorns. He had a rough outing against Arizona State, but remains Texas' most aggressive pitcher. LSU will start Louis Coleman, (14-2, 2.68 ERA), the SEC pitcher of the year and a first-team All-American.

Never mind the curtain calls and the skipping down the third base line on that third HR. Augie blew the game and it was handed to him on a silver platter due to a bad call by the Ump giving UT one run on a "passed ball" call that was a "hit by pitch." Dude should have gone to first and the bases would have been loaded. Thankfully it didn't change the outcome of the game. However it should have ended in the 9th 6-5, LSU still winning it. But nooooooo it was sent into extras on the bad call. On top of all of that--Pulling Austin Wood out (top of the 8th I think, with one out) creating a situation where Augie then ran through the Horns Pen last night creates an argument as for his judgement these days. Maybe he started drinking too early yesterday? Using todays starter in relief last night? No one and I mean no one would have done that, yet Augie did. If your starter tonight doesn't make it through five innings and we (LSU) get to him there are no fresh arms in UT's Pen so game over. Augie's ineffective and thoughtless use of his Pen effectively gives LSU a HUGE advantage for tonight's game.

Here's to a good, clean called game tonight.

    Geaux Tigers!

I'm a big UT fan and supporter, until they play my Alma Mater Studiorum LSU and considering I played, sat the bench for the most part to be honest, for LSU Baseball '89-'93 I have to pull just a little more for my Tigers.

    Geaux TIgers!
