Texas Opens College World Series Final Tonight Against LSU
The traditional powers have combined for 11 national titles and both have reached the best-of-three final series without losing a game in Omaha. Tonight's game begins at 6 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN2.
LSU, the No. 3 national seed, did everything well as the Tigers cruised through their side of the bracket, pounding out nine home runs and averaging more than 10 runs per game in their three CWS victories.
Texas, the No. 1 national seed, has had a bit more drama in their three tournament victories. First was a come-from-behind victory against Southern Miss in the opening round, as Texas scored the winning run with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth. The Longhorns then game back from a 6-0 deficit to score 10 unanswered runs and beat Arizona State, then had to defeat the Sun Devils again to advance to the final. In that game, Texas got home runs from Cameron Rupp and Connor Rowe to rally in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-3 win.
Chance Ruffin (10-2, 3.27 ERA) will start tonight for the Longhorns. He had a rough outing against Arizona State, but remains Texas' most aggressive pitcher. LSU will start Louis Coleman, (14-2, 2.68 ERA), the SEC pitcher of the year and a first-team All-American.
