If that sounds like your perfect night, then we’ve got your golden ticket for this Friday, June 19th: the Alamo Drafthouse and Whole Foods present Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory outdoors, on the roof of their flagship store at 6th and Lamar.
Bring your own little Charlie Bucket if you have one and let him enjoy the marvelous sight gags, clever inventions, and, of course, the chocolate river (we suggest covering the eyes of kids under three during the Oompa Loompas scenes—they can ruin circuses for a lifetime, trust us). Take the Wonkavator to the top and grab a spot for your blanket or chair. It’s free!
If you’re hungry and you forgot to bring your three course dinner gum, you’re covered. The WF chefs have whipped up a special themed three-course meal—no gum required—for only $15, with beer and wine for sale as well.
A hilarious classic film with an Academy Award-nominated score, cheap (but elegant) food, and a young Gene Wilder—all under the clear Austin sky. What else could you possibly want? And don’t say an everlasting gobstopper—that’s our line.
Seating begins at 7:00 and is available first come first serve. Film begins at 8:30.

If you like this film, you can watch the remake version starring Johnny Depp as Wonka on July 25th @ Deep Eddy Pool's Splash Party movie night.
