Alamo Drafthouse Village (2700 W Anderson Lane)
18 and up, Free!

Let us remind you why that name sounds familiar: Yuen is the master action coordinator responsible for all the badass-ness of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and a little something you might have heard of called The Matrix—as well as about a hundred Chinese kung fu flicks you aren’t hardcore enough to have seen.
For one night only you can catch the master back when he was still developing his signature style. At midnight tonight, the Alamo Village is hosting a free screening of The Bloody Fists aka Deadly Buddhist Raiders or Death Beach (hard to decide which is a better name).
This 1972 Hong Kong action movie stars many people our spellcheck keeps saying aren’t words and you probably won’t know them anyway, so let’s skip to the plot: a roving band of Japanese karate fighters terrorize this village for its supply of “Dragon Herb” (easy there, stoners). Nobody can stop them because of their intense karate skills UNTIL a lone outlaw wanders into town. You know how this goes.
This painfully simple plot is accompanied by some pretty wooden acting, but allows for much martial artistry, which was really all the movie was trying to showcase in the first place. The violence gets pretty darn brutal, not to mention graphic; there’s impaled chests, a rape scene, and a beheading. In short, the film is aptly titled.
So if you’re up for watching a good ass-whooping that isn’t taking place in the middle of Sixth Street and doesn’t involve somebody in a muscle shirt and a crew cut, head north and grab a beer before the show. 'Cause ass kicking and beer have always gone hand in hand. Oh and nametaking.
