As most folks know, the latest, speediest incarnation of the Jesus Phone comes out tomorrow, which means that an ungodly number of people around the country are going to be lining up, starting at the crack of dawn, outside their nearest AT&T or Apple store. One analyst estimates that up to half a million of the new iPhone "3G S" smartphones could be sold this weekend—in wonky math terms, that's like two being sold every second.
The video, above, is a pretty nifty behind-the-scenes look at the AT&T Distribution Center in Ft. Worth, where your future phone was probably packaged for shipment. Ahhh, consumerism.
For the record, AT&T plans to make MMS available for free (assuming you have a texting bundle) "later this summer." As for tethering, they're being a bit more cryptic, only going so far as to say that they "plan to offer a tethering plan but don’t have an announcement to make at this time." Not surprising, then, that some enterprising geeks have taken matters into their own hands.

Never had an iphone, and it was time for me to upgrade. About a week ago I made a reservation for an iPhone 3GS. I get an e-mail from Apple today announcing that the store will be opening at 7 am and, oh, by the way, your reservation does not guarantee you a phone as they are sold on a first come, first serve basis.
I called the Apple store to ask, ever so politely, what's the point of a reservation if it does not actually reserve anything. She said she did not know, but did advise that I get to the store as early as possible because people will be camping out over night. Now I am hearing that people that ordered online are getting their phones on June 19. Thanks Apple.
I just have to remember that the first iphone didn't sell out in most locations, so I should be fine. Still.
