Show Previews: White Rabbits at Emo's, YouTube You Call It This Sunday

White Rabbits at Emo’s
Sunday, June 14
Emos (603 Red River St)
$10 in advance, All Ages, 10pm
[info] | [tickets]
Up and coming indie six-piece White Rabbits are on a tour of the States and are making a stop at our lil' town on Sunday night. The band are riding high off the energy from their sophomore record, It's Frightening, produced by onetime Austinite Britt Daniel. Additionally, the album was mixed by Mike McCarthy, whom you'll know from his work from many Austin bands including Spoon, ...Trail of the Dead, Sound Team and more.

White Rabbits will be performing on the inside stage with The Subjects and The Boxing Lesson. Also a New York band, The Subjects say they're "like Nickelback but less ballsy," but in reality the music is closer to the quirky rock of their Brooklyn ilk. Hardworking locals The Boxing Lesson (who cover "White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane...coincidence?) will also perform.

YouTube You Call It
Sunday, June 14
Salvage Vanguard Theater (2803 Manor Road)
8pm, Free
[info]
Also, in what may be the beginning of a long and fruitful partnership (or at least a short, fun one) The Church of the Friendly Ghost and Monofonus Press are coming together to present an evening of audience participation-based YouTube shenanigans, appropriately titled YouTube You Call It.

The evening is hosted by Max Juren, it's free, and it takes place at the Salvage Vanguard Theater. Here's how it works - audience members are invited to yell out their favorite YouTube clips ("Kitten throwing up! Headbanging dude! Hamster fail!") and Juren will put them up on a big screen installation by Michelle Devereux. The evening will also feature Juren engaging in "live historical YouTube video reenactments," and a chance for audience members to star in their own YouTube clips, albeit without the accompaniment of lolcats.
