Thieves in East Austin Home Robbery Caught on Web Camera

The kids in the above photo broke into a French Place home yesterday morning while both owners were at work—and one of them got to see the whole thing happen online!

Around 10 a.m. yesterday, Greg McGuire was alerted by his home security company that a break-in had just occurred at his house. McGuire, a computer engineer, happened to have mounted a wireless web cam in the couple's living room, and when he pulled up the live feed, he was greeted by a strange sight: two dudes were in his house and in the middle of stealing all of the gadgets.

McGuire immediately notified cops, but both thieves had fled by the time authorities showed up. An estimated $1,000 worth of electronics were stolen during the robbery.

Neither of the couple's English settlers (for whom the camera was installed in the first place) did much in the way of deterring the criminals, though in one of the camera stills the male dog, Douglas, can be seen staring at the door as the thieves make their way in.

Statesman has a slideshow of the whole incident. We've reposted a few of the images after the jump.

Dogs are the worst burglar deterrent ever. Of my friends who have had their homes broken into, every single one of them had a dog, and either the dog did nothing, the buglars kicked the dog until it quit barking, and in one case, the dog was stolen and used in illegal dog fighting as a weak sparring partner for bigger dogs.

If my neighbors' house were getting broken into, a barking dog wouldn't draw my attention. The animal barks all day long.

Idiot robbers caught on webcam, yes, funny. The fact that this took place in my hood and they haven't been caught, not so funny.

If the national border should be ignored and everyone let in, then so should the border to this house.

Your prejudice is showing.

i hope they catch these fucks.

Your prejudice is showing. We should welcome them into the house and give them whatever they want.

there were a string of east side burglaries this morning and they think these guys may be tied to those as well...same MO...

Police know who they are, have their plate #s and fingerprints, so hopefully they will be caught.

These kids have eacj fathered 3 kids of their own.

My east austin home was broken into Monday and my friend's home, also in east austin, was broken into today. The guys in this picture fit the description our neighbors gave us of two guys that were wandering around and looked "up to no good." I really hope they are caught. Some serious justice is in order.

So a couple of guys who were up to no good started making trouble in your neighborhood?

I wouldn't necessarily describe these guys as "kids". Smack addicts, maybe. Scumbags, for sure.
