Mika Miko, The Strange Boys Hit Red 7 [Saturday]

Mika Miko w/ the Strange Boys
Saturday, June 6
Red 7 (611 E. 7th St.)
8 pm with Manikin and Magic Jewels

Recently coronated L.A. punk darlings Mika Miko have actually been doing their thing since way back in 2003. Remember 2003? Electroclash was still kind of a big deal, that's how long ago that was. We digress--Mika Miko do right by their hometown's storied punk legacy, kicking out melodically direct jams like the bastard children of X, or a science experiment attempting to combine a JV cheerleading squad with The Germs. 2009 has never sounded more like 1984.

Providing a healthy dose of genre contrast, Austin's own R&B dreamboats The Strange Boys supply the perfect slacker-soul grooves for long nights of awkward shuffling, excessive drinking and desperate sidelong glances at the object of one's affection. Following the Red 7 set, the boys set out for a month-long tour of the U.S., return to Austin for a July 11 show at Stubb's, then pack off to Europe til the end of August. That's a damn long time to be away from home, so come out and wish them luck! Also playing: Austin's pop-punk O.G.s Manikin and new wave sexaholics Magic Jewels.
