Show Preview: Brutal Juice at Red 7

The University of North Texas has a world renowned music program, known primarily for their high ranking jazz program and associated bands. But while Denton has spawned many notable jazz and classical musicians, their ranks have also inspired many other acts, including the "acid-punk" band Brutal Juice, who first appeared in the early nineties and have more recently reunited for shows, which included many appearances at the now-defunct Fry Street Fair in Denton.

In their nineties incarnation, Brutal Juice rode the same wave of grimy, heavy punk that helped bands like Helmet find lasting audiences. Their 1995 album, mutilation makes identification difficult, was released on Interscope records. Here is a clip of Stabbing Westward premiering their video "Ugly on the Inside" (actually entitled "the vaginals") on 120 Minutes.

This night, three other heavy acts will lend their support to the headliner. Young Widows are an aggressive, noisy act from Louisville with a split with Melt Banana on the horizon. Autons are a local trio who alternate between screams and a more At the Drive In-type vocal interplay, and the thrashier, noisy Markov will also perform.
