Preview and Ticket Giveaway: New York Dolls at Emo's [Friday]

Can any band compare to the New York Dolls? The Dolls combined elements of punk, glam, and ol' fashioned rock and roll - and did it all in platform shoes. The genre and gender-bending released their self-titled debut in 1973, simultaneously paving the way for the Sex Pistols and a million hairspray abusing Sunset Strip bands.

After releasing two studio albums in the seventies, the band members went their own ways into the disparate worlds of hard rock and lounge jazz. They reunited in 2004, and since then the two remaining members (Sylvain Sylvain and David Johansen) have cut two more albums under the Dolls' name. The first, One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This came out in 2006, followed by Cause I Sez So, which came out last month.

This contest is closed - congrats to Linda and Charles!

The band are playing at Emo's on Friday, and are joined on their nationwide tour by our own trailblazers, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears. This is a fantastic break for an amazing local band, whose reception during their Austin stop should be no less than celebratory. Joe Lewis and his band's latest album, Tell 'Em What Your Name Is!, just came out in March on the solid Lost Highway label.
