Alpha Rev presents its radio-ready concoctions at Antone’s on Saturday. Casey McPherson’s delicate voice and the touches of cello and violin layer the intricately woven instrumentation with melancholy texture, bringing to light the poignant lyricism that marks the beautifully orchestrated compositions. Fans of Travis, Coldplay, and the like should definitely consider checking out this band -- in fact, attend the show on us! Enter the form below for a chance to win two tickets. MacPherson is a veteran of the Austin music scene -- he led the band Endochine to reasonable success earlier in the decade. After suffering through some heartbreaking family deaths, MacPherson founded Better Off Rock’d a few years ago. The non-profit charity aimed to reduce suicides via rock concerts as well as education although the entity seems to be defunct now per our research.
Brooklyn’s Deadbeat Darling precede Alpha Rev on stage with equally stirring rock ditties. The band was founded by singer Joseph King (from Austin band Canvas) who moved to New York in 2005. Deadbeat Darling released its new EP Weight of Wandering this year. The night of melodies kicks off with local outfit Quiet Company (buy 2009’s Everyone You Love Will Be Happy Soon here) and Dallas’ The Campaign.
An alert for fans of Misprint Magazine -- the new issue drops today -- join the beloved local zine’s staff and fans at the “Hard Times” issue release happy hour at The Mohawk at 5 p.m.
