New City Website Maps Special Events’ Road Closures

If you've ever been caught in traffic caused by road closures around town, then you'll want to take a look at the latest online offering from the city of Austin: a site dedicated to providing a one-stop resource for special events and related street closure information.

The special events portal provides an interactive map view so visitors can track road closures geographically, as well as a calendar view for closures set for specific dates. Other features include news releases about specific closures and event contact information.

"While most of this information is available on the City’s Austinroadworks.org in a word format, this site combines the visual map elements to quickly view a race or parade course," said Robert Spillar, director of the Austin Transportation Department. "The maps and calendars of road closures is a request that came from the Austin community to increase communication about traffic movement around the city."

The new site also links to listings from other large-event venue sites, such as the Parks and Recreation department, the Convention Center, the Palmer Events Center and the Long Center.
