Per the Alamo website, “Each competitor has 60 seconds to perform air guitar to a song they either choose before the competition or bring with them. Contestants are judged on the 4.0-6.0 figure skating scale.” The top three winners from each of the three preliminary rounds will advance to the Austin finale at The Parish on June 12th. (The first two rounds will held earlier this year.) We’re proud to announce that Austinist Music Editor Paige Maguire is one of the judges for The Parish event.
The search for the top US air guitarist started on the 27th of last month in Boston and continues on through the country till the end of June. The winners from each city will compete in the US Air Guitar Finals in August; the winner, the US Air Guitar champion will represent our country in the Air Guitar World Championships in Finland. You can check out all the official US Air Guitar Championships rules here --
US Air Guitar contests each consist of two rounds:
- Round 1 (freestyle): each competitor performs to a song of their choice.
- Round 2 (compulsory): top competitors from round 1 perform surprise song.
