Also out this week is the very much anticipated new Grizzly Bear record, Veckatimest, and our review will be posted later today. We're also quite excited about Jenny Owen Youngs' Transmitter Failure and Sunn 0)))'s (unbelievable, brilliant) Monoliths and Dimensions.
Loxsly Tomorrow's Fossils (Little Mafia/Texas Heat)Austinites have watched Loxsly grow up. Since the early days (when they were almost always referred to as 'those kids from Waco'), fans of the group have been treated to a constantly evolving and progressing sound. Tomorrow's Fossils proves that the prolific young group is soon going to reap the rewards of their hard work in the trenches of the over-saturated Austin scene. They've gained some patience in their songwriting, and while the pedal steel, synths and guitars are all still there, they've taken a subtler tone. Cody Ground's voice has also matured, finding itself somewhere in between Soft Bulletin-era Wayne Coyne and Doug Martsch. Don't miss the hand-made merch created by local artists for the record.

The Paper Chase Someday This Could All Be YoursSince 1998, Dallas-based producer John Congleton has been the driving force behind The Paper Chase. Those of us who were lucky enough to catch their recent show here in Austin were thrilled to see the group together again, performing songs from this new record. As always, Congleton's avant-hardcore guitar work and frenetic performance was top-notch -- and the new album stands proudly next to the live show's established rep. Although the band is still railing against corruption, conflict and the world at large, there's a sort of space present in these songs that stands out as -- dare we say it -- mature compared to previous releases. Congleton's Travis Morrison-esque vocal style still captivates, but recently added drummer Jason Garner's work (particularly on "The Common Cold") makes this record infinitely interesting.
