Bad News for People Who Hate Good News

With all the bad news today, any chance for a little non-ironic cheer is most welcome. A couple of weeks ago, Austin’s Samaritan Counseling Center launched a new social media site, www.RecognizeGood.com, to offer antidotes-via-anecdotes, encouraging public recognition of good news as a counterbalance to all the crap bogging us down. The site is a public forum where anyone can post thank-you notes to acknowledge and honor good deeds done by others. Not only that, but the organization makes charitable donations in honor of the good deed doers.

When you nominate someone, the nominee automatically receives an email. When the nomination is reviewed and the honoree accepted, it posts to the site and a donation is made in that person’s honor using funds provided by sponsors. Nominators can also make an optional additional donation, which also goes to a charitable organization.

“Random acts of kindness happen every day, but sometimes they go needlessly unnoticed. We want people to use the site often to recognize that special someone who made a real difference,” said RecognizeGood.com founder and TyRex Group CEO John Bosch, Jr.

Brian Dolezal, spokesperson for Recognize Good, explains that one needn’t cure cancer to merit recognition, “RecognizeGood.com is for anyone to use to recognize anyone for any act of kindness. It can be a nonprofit organization thanking a company for their contribution, a company recognizing an employee for a job well done, a wife appreciating her husband for taking the kids to soccer practice, a son recognizing his mother for doing a great job over the years. And even if you can’t think of someone to recognize today, it’s a great site to visit to feel good about your fellow man and get inspired to perform your own good.”
