Longhorn Women's Golf Team Begins Play in NCAA Tournament

The Texas women's golf team is headed to the NCAA Championships for the second straight year after a fourth-place finish in the West Regionals. Coach Martha Richards has now taken her team to the national finals in each of her two years with the program.

Play begins today through Friday at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland.

Freshman Nicole Vandermade leads the Longhorns in scoring with a 74.94 average. She'll be joined for the final tournament by seniors Kristin Walla, Kelley Louth, and Caney Hines, along with junior Shannon Fish.

Texas was a No. 17 seed at the West regional, but the Longhorns' surprise finish made them the lowest-seeded team to earn a spot in the national field.
