Austinist Show Preview: Jude/Ross CD Release at Mohawk on Tuesday

Rarely do bands actually have release shows on the day their album is released, which is usually a Tuesday and isn’t always conducive to partying and general merrymaking. In many ways, Tuesday is the worst day of the week. Friday seems too far and you don’t have the Monday blues as an excuse for slacking at work. Perhaps this is why the people who pick days picked Tuesday to be album release day, to give everyone a reason to wait for this not-so-pleasant day. And maybe, this is why Austin’s Jude/Ross decided to hold their album release at the Mohawk on this day.

Jude/Ross and their mellow Jonathan Richman-influenced pop will play songs off their brand new self-titled, self-released album. The group takes a minimalist approach to songwriting, with all of the fluff and pomp of modern indie and rock stripped away to reveal a voice and a four-piece pop rock group fronted by Michael Ross. According to the band, the group began as more of an exercise or practice than a serious music-making entity. The group, which formed in 2005, has apparently taken a more serious turn since then, and now they’ll have to figure out what to do with the remainder of their set time with 10 songs clocking in at 26 minutes. Take your time fellas, and maybe there will even be a chance for some tunes that didn’t make the album cut or a few covers.

The harmonious power of indie poppers of Wiretree’s guitar, keys and melody will open the show along with the baritone folk rock of Sinners Repent.
