Let us put it plainly: this is 2009's 'I saw them when' show. We suspect that in a few years, both of tonight's acts at The Parish Room will be turning up again at Stubb's or the Austin Music Hall, and many will kick themselves for missing the opportunity to catch this double bill of pretty and intelligent pop and Americana.

We've written a lot about Elvis Perkins in Dearland: they were one of our headliners at the Austinist/BMI SXSW day party, so we're clearly big fans. But for those who weren't there, Perkins has really found his stride this year: fans of the witty, wry works of artists like Nick Lowe and early Elvis Costello or Poses-era Rufus Wainwright will find much to admire here.

Openers Other Lives may be from Oklahoma, but their sound is a mysterious blend of Denton and Oxford. The beautiful, piano-based songs reference Radiohead ballads, rainy days, and the dreamy sounds of Midlake's Van Occupanther.

This is your last chance to win tickets to tonight's show -- a handful of winners will get guest list spots and copies of Justin Cox's poster, signed by the bands. We'll announce winners later today!
