Austin’s longest running drag king troupe, Kings N Things, will be returning to Elysium tonight to celebrate their seventh year of professional gender bending. The troupe has taken their female-to-male drag show on the road to events across the country, performing alongside top drag performers while selling out local shows at the Off Center and the Blue Theater.

Previous performances have taken on subjects like restroom access, violence against women, and capitalism. But this time, the troupe is answering the age old question, “How many drag kings can you fit in a birthday cake?” Of the closing number, the show’s producer Cherry Poppins says it’s “...the gayest thing I’ve personally ever seen.” Definitely something work sticking around for.

Aside from providing a forum for serious activism mixed with uproarious entertainment, Kings N Things has raised over $15,000 for various charities in the Austin area. Lucky #7, their birthday blowout, will also feature very special performances by burlesque divas Vivienne Vermouth from Dallas and Sugar Push from Houston, as well as some queerleading by the Queertastiks.

If that ain’t enough, for two bucks you can shack up with members of the troupe in their Polaroid photo booth.
