Lucero recently embarked on lengthy tour, previewing songs off their upcoming album (on Universal Republic), no doubt. Last month, Singer Ben Nichols posted a note on the band’s website containing an update on the new album, “This is our first record for Universal Republic and we’re at Ardent studios in midtown Memphis. This is actually only the second time we’ve done a full band record in Memphis (That Much Further West was the only other one). I think we made a good choice. We wanted to take our favorite pieces of Memphis music history and combine it with the drunken rock&roll we usually play and see what we came up with. This is gonna be a soulful one folks.”
Nichols has been staying busy, having contributed to All Aboard: A Tribute to Johnny Cash and The Hold Steady’s Stay Positive. He also has a starring role in MTV’s $5 Cover. Earlier this year, Nichols released The Last Pale Light In The West, a record inspired by Cormac McCarthy’s novel Blood Meridian.
