"I'm trying to bring back fine art documentary photography into Austin's art community," she said. "I'd like to give the community and it's fine-art, documentary professional photographers a chance to show their work in a gallery setting, as well as sell to a serious art market. Nowlin expects to exhibit work from a different photographer every two months. She will display some of her own self-described "gritty/grainy, cultural documentary" work July 1 through August 31.
"Photography is a medium I think that has gotten lost. In the world of digital phones and cameras and the vast amount of digital technology that is out there now everyone thinks they're a photographer these days. I want to show viewers that black and white photography is something that is challenging, pure, beautiful, and still very much a strong form of art."
The L. Nowlin Gallery will be open Tuesday - Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by appointment. The gallery will be open from 6-8 p.m. every first Thursday of the month.
John Langmore’s Mexico, will be on display through June 29.
