Amazon Buys Austin E-Book Software Maker Lexcycle
The Austin Business Journal reports that online giant Amazon has purchased Lexcycle, a company with Austin ties and the creators of Stanza, a popular e-book application.
Stanza lets people search for, download, and read books on their iPhones. To support the Kindle e-book reader, Amazon recently released a Kindle iPhone app that lets people read, but lacks a purchasing feature. That's where Stanza is likely to fit in.
"It has been an amazing experience to see Stanza grow out of our brainstormed ideas into one of the most downloaded iPhone applications," said Lexcycle founder Marc Prud'hommeaux in a statement on his company blog. "We are not planning any changes in the Stanza application or user experience as a result of the acquisition."
Lexcycle has offices in Portland, Oregon and runs its business development and marketing efforts from an Austin office. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
