Modern Aural Sculpture Symposium South (M.A.S.S.): This two day event features panel discussions, workshops, lectures, short performances, and an awards ceremony focusing on contemporary creative and experimental music. Organized by the Church of the Friendly Ghost, presentations include a circuit bending workshop, an interview with modern jazz artists, and more. MASS takes place at the Acton School of Business (1404 E. Riverside Dr.) on Friday and Saturday from noon until 6pm.

Crime or Emergency: Performer and playwright Sibyl Kempson acts as one half of a duo presenting her play, Crime or Emergency, which was originally written for eleven actors. The nearly empty stage features only a piano, a chair, a microphone, and some clothing. Kempson is joined by musician Mike Iveson who performs "demonic arrangements of the indigenous music of their native New Jersey". Crime or Emergency will be performed at the Blue Theater this Friday and Saturday.

Wholphin Screening: A screening of the latest issue of the quarterly DVD magazine from the fine folks at McSweeney's. This issue includes a documentary by Lauren Greenfield exploring a deadly combination, kids + money. Come see the latest and greatest from the world of short films at Salvage Vanguard tonight at 7pm.

Chris Cogburn, Bonnie Jones, and Liz Tonne: Three accomplished improvising musicians from three separate states come together to form a trio that innovates with electronics, percussion, and vocals. The group will be performing at the Spider House Event Center at 8pm tonight.

Newsome records, loops, and edits audio and video in real time with the help of a modified Wii controller. Shade Compositions will be performed on Friday the 24th, Tuesday the 28th and Saturday, May 2nd at the Spider House Events Center.

Phantom Orchard: Phantom Orchard is the musical duo consisting of Zeena Parkins and Ikue Mori, both multi-instrumentalists who have collaborated with many significant names in contemporary music. This experimental music performance is presented in collaboration with Art Seen Alliance and will take place at the Spider House at 10pm.

Continuing Fusebox Festival Events:

The Method Gun: Acclaimed local theatre troupe, the Rude Mechanicals, reprise back their award winning original performance. First performed last year at the Long Center, Method Gun explores the turbulent life and mysterious death of the actor's eccentric guru, Stella Burden. The Method Gun is being performed Thursday through Saturday at 8pm at the Off Center through the end of Fusebox Festival on Saturday, May 2nd.

Mr. Z Loves Company: Matt Hislope and Josh Meyer of the Rubber Repertory have put together a show that makes Avenue Q actually seem like Sesame Street. Two tuxedoed men (Meyer and Hislope in masks) explore an intimate relationship surrounded by naughty maids with plenty of musical and physical comedy and, of course, dildos. Do we need to mention that this show is for adults only? Mr. Z Loves Company is being performed at 8pm at the Vortex Theatre on Friday and Saturday.

érection: French dancer and choreographer Pierre Rigal explores the gradual "erection" of primitive man to an upright walker in a forty five minute performance where he goes from lying prone to sanding tall. DirectorAurelien Bory brings his experience working with the contemporary French circus to this act of dance, acrobatics, projected image, and sounds. érection will be performed regularly throughout Fusebox Fest at The Austin Ventures Studio at Ballet Austin (501 W. 3rd Street). The performance is presented in collaboration with Arthouse and is free, so go RSVP online!
