Austin Looks Different After Dark: Art City Austin's Art After Dark

Art Week Austin events will come to a peak with Saturday's Art After Dark party. The event is being held at City Hall and along the 1st Street Bridge, offering party goers spectacular views of the city at night. Art collectors and appreciators who have enjoyed the daytime events of Art City Austin will be entertained by DJ Chicken George and headliners Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears. Food will be provided by Austin's Word of Mouth Catering along with area restaurants including the Belmont, the Salt Lick, Tacodeli, and the Cookie Lounge. Twin Liquors and Bacardi are on board as the night's wine and beverage sponsors. Tickets to the party cost $75 a piece with art collector badges and VIP options available for groups.

Jaclyn Pryor's pink unplugged commissioned installation will be up and running during Art After Dark and through out the Art City events. The project is an extension of Pryor's Love Courier Service that has delivered love notes in Austin, Portland, and Chicago. pink unplugged will feature a temporary love factory where participants can type love messages to the recipient of their choice. The notes are then bottled at the pink factory and delivered by bicycle couriers.

Proceeds from this year's Art After Dark will go to the Austin Museum of Art and the Blanton. All of the Art Week Austin events are organized by Art Alliance Austin, an organization founded in 1956 as the Women's Art Guild to build support for Laguna Gloria. As the art scene in town grew, the Alliance restructured to focus on supporting the larger art community including artists, patrons, museums, and participants. The Austin Art Alliance looks to foster collaboration between commerce and creativity by organizing events through out the year that benefit local art organizations.
