Art Week Austin Continues: Today's Schedule

Our coverage of Art Week Austin continues with a rundown of today's events:

12:19 Project at AMOA: Also an ongoing project of the Fusebox Festival, this open collaboration encourages people to document a single minute in their lives. A project of local non-profit Refraction Arts, anyone is invited to create an image (a photo, video, audio file, text, map, etc.) of their experience at 12:19 on any given day. Participants may also call 524-9772 to record one minute of their life. Presented in a real life and online "library" of sorts, the resulting documentation of everyone's short history will be on display at AMOA until May 2nd.

Pecha Kucha Night: yet another installment of the creative presentation event which started in Japan. This Pecha Kucha night will take place at the Austin City Limits Studio and starts at 8:20pm (although if the previous event was any indication, show up early because it will sell out), a $5 donation will be accepted at the door. Local artists, designers, and architects will share 20 images of their work for 20 seconds a piece in a fast paced slideshow format.

Opening Reception for Friends at Domy Books: A fine group show featuring art by Tim Kerr, Bill Daniel, Cynthia Connolly, Rich Jacobs, and Michael Sieben. The group of artists are friends from way back, many of whom met through their involvement with the the punk rock scene in the 90's. The multi-disciplinary show will feature photography, painting, mixed media, and illustration from this diverse group of contemporary artists. The opening reception starts at 7pm, and admission is free. Friends will be on display at the Domy Books gallery until June 4th.

Barrels Across Texas: Part of the ongoing Texas Hill Country Food and Wine Festival, Barrels Across Texas will feature art by tweny eight local artist who decorated wine barrels which are displayed around town. The barrels will be sold at auction at tonight's event. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the Dell Children's Hospital, the Capital Area Food Bank, and Art Alliance Austin.

Umlauf Garden Party: This benefit for the Umlauf Sculpture Garden provides funds for the preservation of the unique collection, the support of the museum, and the organization's educational programs. The Nash Hernandez Orchestra will provide a danceable soundtrack for party attendees. The fundraiser will also feature a silent auction of donations from artists and local businesses, for more information, consult the Umlauf Sculpture Garden site.

Art Ride: Public Bike Tour: Throughout Art Week, Mellow Johnny's and UT student docents will be leading easy rides to public art installations downtown and on campus. Highlights will include stops at the outdoor commissions for the Texas Biennial and pieces from UT's Public Art Program. For locations and route information, visit Mellow Johnny's site.
