Dell Pulled Into New Orleans Lawsuit Over Crime Cameras

Dell has found itself in the middle of a legal battle over security camera purchases by the city of New Orleans.

The Austin Business Journal reports that attorneys with the city of New Orleans have filed a "cross-claim" against Dell that alleges the company misused a long-standing state deal to sell the city cameras.

The computer company was pulled into the battle this week, after two companies that previously provided New Orleans with crime cameras filed a civil suit against the city. Following a two-hour deposition of Mayor Ray Nagin on Monday, the New Orleans city attorney asked a judge to require Dell to cover City Hall's portion of any judgment, should the administration be found liable for improperly purchasing cameras through the state deal.

Dell said in a statement today that the city's claims are "without merit, as are the plaintiff’s claims against Dell in this case. Dell values its relationship with the city of New Orleans and its citizens, and is strongly defending all claims.”
