Where are you guys originally from and how did you end up in Austin?
Osteo grew up in London and Glasgow until the age of thirteen, he then moved to Florida and then to Texas. Baggage was actually born in Texas but raised in France till the age of 9 when his parents moved to Colorado, then California, then Massachusetts. Deadweight is a native Canuck and was raised in Victoria, he lived in Greenland from the ages of 15 till 24, then finally travelled the USA and stopped in Texas. Cadger is a Turk and lived in Turkey until the age of 11, he then moved to Colombia and finally made to the States at the age of 23. We're not sure how we got here, it was somewhat spontaneous.
Why Austin?
Austin is warm, relatively cheap, great music scene, the girls are hot, the food's pretty good, the drugs are kind of shitty but the whiskey's kind of cheap. Additionally they have a lot of moonshine here, and crawfish boils.
How long has the band been together? What is the current Bankrupt and the Borrowers' discography?
The band originally formed in 1985. We were all between the ages of 3 and 5. I don't know if that necessarily counts. It was a psychedelia festival in Sassnitz, Germany and we were just playing with a recorder and some sticks on rocks and bandanas which don't actually make sound. We met up later in Boston, MA and began writing songs there over four straight days heavily influenced.

Where was Beers on the Bible recorded?
Beers on the Bible was recorded at our house in our band room by us.
The band's sound is mix of quite a few genres -- how would you describe your sound in a sentence?
It’s like junky rock that's written by people that were never junkies.
How did you come up with the monikers for the band members?
The names are supposed to be an ironic slander, though they seem to end up defining us.
Does the band really live together in a house? And do the band members hold any other jobs around town?
Yeah, we all live in one house off of East Cameron and have for the last 2 years. We get jobs on and off mostly at bars through friends which we can sometimes hang onto and sometimes can't.
The band is represented by The Versatile Syndicate -- how did that relationship begin and what has the entity helped you with since you moved to Austin?
We met up with the Versatile Syndicate at the Rockin' Tomato. I don't know if they're still doing shows there or not, but that used to be our favorite place in town to play. We played a show that was us, the Bread, and Idle Kids. That's when the Versatile Syndicate met us. So far it has been a great relationship and they have done a tremendous amount for us. Couldn't say enough good things about them.
Where was the video for "I Love You Baby" shot? What was the thinking behind it and who are the other musicians we see in it? The concept seems very spontaneous -- did the band plan that video for hours and hours, or was it shot as impulsively and naturally as it appears?
It was actually planned out for 8 months. Ridiculous hunh? Why would you need that much time to film one shot that just goes down your road? It took a while for everyone to get together on one day. We shot on the street where we live, the video goes through a house which is the one we live in and ends in the band room where we recorded our EP. We are very thankful to have the Bread, Follow That Bird!, the Bridge Farmers, the Van Buren Boys, and Hobomouth in that video with us. That was probably the most fun we've had in a long time.
What's next for Bankrupt and the Borrowers?
We will hopefully be releasing a split EP with the Bridge Farmers by the end of May and will be going on national tour through June and July. We're playing at Emo's tomorrow which is Wednesday the 22nd with Prayer for Animals, Smoke and Feathers, and Astronaut Suit. We are also playing on May 1st at Mohawk for the 7 year anniversary of the Midgetmen.
