Those protesting this bill are ignorant of several things in their emotional responses: 1) To obtain a Concealed Handgun License in Texas, you have to be at least 21, pay a fee, pass a background check and take a class. While not exorbitant, those steps alone were enough to prevent me from doing the same when I was in school (not to mention the fee alone...) 2) This protest was one which at its core, was in support of denying Americans a constitutional right (The 2nd Amendm.) as opposed to historical protests which tended to be in support of rights: free speech, equal protection, assembly, etc. How times have changed. 3) Which criminals intent on causing violence will be deterred by keeping concealed handguns illegal on campus? How effective are the current measures?
