Weekend Music Preview: The Calm Blue Sea score Fritz Lang's Die Nibelungen: Siegfried [Sunday / Downtown Alamo Drafthouse]

One of our current favorites in town, The Calm Blue Sea brings us a fascinating show this weekend at Alamo Drafthouse (Downtown at the Ritz). The band has been hard at work the last couple months scoring the Fritz Lang classic from 1924, Die Nibelungen: Siegfried.

The Calm Blue Sea expertly fashions exhilarating, lush atmospheres that might be tranquil to begin with but tend to explode with deafening sonic euphoria. If you enjoy the instrumental assault of bands like Mogwai and Explosions In The Sky, you definitely need to check out The Calm Blue Sea. They turned in a typically impressive (and loud) set to kick off our recent Local Music Is Sexy 7 shindig. Read our interview with the band from a few weeks ago here and head on over to the downtown Alamo at 7 p.m. this Sunday to enjoy the fruit of all that recent labor when the band furnishes the soundtrack to Fritz Lang’s film. As for its next club gig, The Calm Blue Sea opens for Scottish act The Twilight Sad at The Mohawk on April 19th.
