Writers' League of Texas Now Accepting Submissions for 2009 Texas Book Awards
The Writers' League of Texas is now taking entries for its 2009 Book Awards contest. Previously known as the Violet Crown Book Awards and the Teddy Children's Book Awards, the combined prize honors the year's best works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry and literary prose, and children's short and long works.
Past winners have included Texas Monthly columnist and novelist Sarah Bird, novelist Amanda Eyre Ward, poet Jack Myers, and NPR commentator Marion Winik.
Submissions do not have to be from Texas writers; the contest is open to all American authors of published works in 2008. Winners in each of the five categories will receive a $1,000 cash prize and appear at October's Texas Book Festival.
