Texas Senate Passes Bill Allowing Guns Brought to Work in Cars

Some folks are up in arms, so to speak, over the Texas Senate today approving a bill that allows employees to carry firearms and ammunition in their vehicles when going to work. The bill specifies that both would need to remain "out of sight" and the vehicles locked.

State Senator Glenn Hegar (R-Katy), who championed the bill, argued that it was "designed to stop employers from punishing employees who legally bring weapons to work in their cars." When asked by fellow Senator Mario Gallegos (D-Houston) to clarify the exact types of ammunition that would be permitted under this measure, Hegar smugly responded, "Under this bill, they are not allowed to have dynamite in their car.”
