Easy Let Down: The Eastern Sea & Doug Burr at Stubb's

Easy Let Down Week with Doug Burr, The Eastern Sea

Stubbs (801 Red River)
Inside, 9 p.m., Free

We're so thrilled to be following the Eastern Sea's progress as they stretch out into the wild, wild world of Austin indie rock. Their sound, a subtly haunting take on melodic pop, will undoubtedly work beautifully in Stubb's inside room. Follow the jump to see a video interview with the band, conducted at Austin's Auditorium Shores.

Opening for the locals will be Denton-based folk singer Doug Burr, playing in support of this year's The Shawl. Recorded in Tehauacana, Texas, in the old Texas Hall, The Shawl was recorded in 27 hours with Burr and some friends within the confines of the run-down and sonically magical space. Featuring lyrics taken directly from nine different Psalms, this darkly spiritual album comes very close to perfect. Burr's voice and guitar pair to take center stage, but the collaboration with lithe percussion work, accordions, pedal steel and ghostly choir push through and pull back in just the right moments, augmenting already sturdy tunes with delicate grace. Taking these tunes in live will be an honor - don't miss this show. It's free, happening at Stubb's on Thursday, and is definitely letting us down from the SX roller coaster easy.
