White Denim headlines this free show (RSVP) on Saturday presented by Aquarium Drunkard, in conjunction with Standard Answer; American Princes and Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears support.
What has White Denim been up to since the US release of Exposion last year?
James Petralli: We toured Europe for a month and recorded a new record called Fits over the holidays. We have also been working independently and together on various studio projects that may or may not see the light of day. We needed to revive our creativity and restore our enthusiasm for living together. I think we have mega effectively done so. The new tunes are coming together nicely in rehearsals and there is a ton of laughter in our heartsongs.
We are not sure when the new record will come out in the States. Actually, I am not sure if the last one ever came out here. Fits will be out in Europe in June though. Hopefully we can put the record out here around the same time.
What is the band’s discography?
The band has released two EP’s (Let’s Talk About It and the “RCRD LBL EP”) and Exposion. The U.K. full length (Workout Holiday) was culled from Exposion and our first EP Let’s Talk About It. We have released about twenty songs in our whole entire career at this point.
Follow the jump for the rest of the interview and more weekend show recommendations. And keep checking our big post with SXSW related party information regularly for updates on events in town this weekend and beyond!
How did you get involved with Saturday's show presented by Aquarium Drunkard and Standard Answer?
Justin Gage, the man behind the blog Aquarium Drunkard, which I believe is a reference to a song by the band Wilco, has offered us a ton of support in the Californias of the world by blogging on us hard, so we wanted to do this show to keep those posts and clicks rolling in. And he is a super dude who sent us an invitation to play via email.
