Is it possible to hope for something to be good even though you know it probably won't be? Star Wars fans know what we’re talking about. That’s how we’re feeling about this one.
The 2 Bobs was written and directed by Austinite Tim McCanlies, writer of Iron Giant and director of Secondhand Lions (speaking of which, someone ought to check in on that Haley Joel Osment, we haven’t heard from HIM in a while). It was also shot right here in the River City (support local film!).
Apparently, the film follows two programmers on a mission to reclaim their hot new video game, which was stolen by someone called "the Spam King." The titular Bobs look sufficiently, if a bit generically, nerdy (well, one’s nerdy, the other’s a heavy-set Jack Black-type, which we’re sure he hates hearing and we apologize but we gotta call it like we see it), but all the nerdy looks in the world couldn't keep us from still being on the fence as to whether the Bobs are worth our time.
Check out the trailer for yourself here. If the premise intrigues you, let us know how it turns out and maybe we’ll catch it on the sure-to-be “unrated” dvd. In the meantime, we’ll be in line for I Love You, Man if you need us.
Catch The 2 Bobs at 6:45 PM, Friday March 13th at the Austin Convention Center. Take a deep breath and dive into the SxSW 2009 Film Guide for even more information.
