As much as I'd like to jump on the Metallica bashing wagon, I gained a new appreciation of them for taking locals The Sword with them on tour. Even though their new stuff will never, ever rival their old music, I am strangely OK with this. BTW Robert Rich, that's James with Armani not Kirk.

It would be awesome if they take this opportunity to expose all the attendees to their newest songs and just complete avoid all their old stuff. Seth

I would hardly call this the moment that SXSW jumps the shark. It's been fairly corporate for a while now, and I think this is just the final nail in its Starbucks-sponsored coffin. Nonetheless, I'm still excited about the show, should be interesting. I wonder if Kirk will bring his Armani bag?

They had REM at stubs just fine. I'd expect to find far more SXSW attendees at an REM concert than Metallica.
