Some Local Companies Still Planning to Hire This Year [It's Not All Bad News]

A recent survey suggests that more local companies are planning to hire in the next few months than those planning to reduce headcount.

Employment services company Manpower Inc.'s latest report, derived from data gathered from over 30,000 companies around the country, finds that 17% of local businesses are looking to add staff "in coming months," while 10% believe they'll be laying off additional workers from April through June. Most of the remainder of those polled believe they'll keep their existing headcounts.

Comparatively, Austin looks like it will fare slightly better than the rest of the country, with the national figures at 15% hiring and 14% cutting.
