ScreenBurn at SXSW and our Interactive Badge Giveaway [SXSW]
One of the often overlooked but especially interesting components of SXSW Interactive is ScreenBurn, a special mini-fest of its own that focuses on video games and how they relate to music, media, and film. Originally debuting in 2006, ScreenBurn has since grown to span multiple days and several different types of events:
- ScreenBurn at SXSW Arcade, where the public is invited to try out fancy new games and gaming technology. This runs Friday, March 13 (2 to 6 p.m.) through Sunday, March 15 (Noon to 6 p.m. on the weekend), and will take place on the first floor of the Austin Convention Center. Admission is free and open to the public, with no badges required.
- ScreenBurn Panel Programming, where experts weigh in on everything from how last year's highly-anticipated release, SPORE, inspired a whole community unto itself, to how you might go about making a mint designing iPhone games.Panel Programming for ScreenBurn coincides with the Interactive schedule, with panels taking place from Friday, March 13 through Tuesday, March 15. An Interactive, Gold, or Platinum badge is required to attend.
- Assorted evening programming like a special edition of Dorkbot as well as an art-meets-fashion "multimedia performance," entitled Imaginations
- A Game Design Competition, where would-be designers attempt to impress a jury of industry veterans (and the audience) with their lofty creations
