In London, a contingency of musicians have taken a novel approach to classical music - namely by treating it as anything but. Instead of performing centuries-old classics in stuffy theaters while dressed to the nines, the musicians who make up the nonclassical movement play in a pub called The Macbeth, encourage contemporary remixes of their work by artists including Thom Yorke and Hot Chip, and release forward-thinking releases on their Nonclassical label.
On Saturday, March 21st, this little slice of New London is coming to the Tap Room on 6th street for a showcase - a great chance for us to find out what the deal is without having to go overseas.
