Snapshots: Art Night Austin
On Saturday, Art Alliance Austin held an exclusive preview and fundraiser for Art Week Austin which will take place in April. Attendees were chauffeured to museums and galleries around town to see work of artists who will be participating in Art Week Austin. Local chefs provided food and wine at each of the locations. Art Week Austin will take place April 22nd through April 26th and will include an outdoor art fair, special gallery exhibits, and public art installations.
Saturday's Art Night Austin offered a preview of what's to come and provided a platform for announcing this year's special projects. A slightly more elaborate version of Jaclyn Pryor's interactive art production pink was unveiled as the 2009 Commissioned Artist Project. You may remember pink: a (love) courier service from First Night in 2007, when bike messengers dressed in pink were dispatched to deliver small love notes in glass bottles to unsuspecting New Years Eve celebrators. For their Art City Austin project, Pryor and her cycling crew will create a gigantic pedal powered contraption to be installed in the City Hall Plaza that will serve as the hub for the love delivery service. Pryor's inspiration and goal are simply to spread love and hope throughout the city and she has brought her amorous performance project to both Chicago and Portland. For their return to Austin, pink couriers will once again hand deliver love notes to recipients all over town.
Art City Austin will take place April 22nd through the 26th and include a series of citywide art events. pink will be on display at City Hall on April 24th through 26th from 10am to 6pm.
