Like most of their lyrics, the band name was chosen by its non-Japanese members simply because they thought it sounded pretty. The British electronic group focuses on piecing pleasant phrases together rather than complex musical insignias, but we're okay with that. The end result is a well orchestrated mix of funkiness and poetry. Think of them as a serious version of Flight on the Conchords (strange enough, frontman David Best's voice does sound a lot like Jermaine Clement's). Better yet, don't waste energy thinking—go see them tonight at Emo's.

Expect tons of twangy guitar, a raunchy bass line and lyrics like, "When you're pre-menstrual/ I will play chill-out compilation instrumentals." The band uses vintage instruments, removing the chance of a plasticy sound that many electronic groups radiate. The hit "Collarbone" from their 2006 album Transparent Things was catchy enough to make it into Jaguar and Miller Lite commercials, so you'll be instantly cooler when jamming out to the live version. (Hey, at least it's not another indie-band-iPod commercial.)

The group has a wide range of influence from Russian novelist Nabokov to the German experimental music journey, Krautrock. Diction is key for Fujiya & Miyagi and style is even more important. Brooklyn-based Project Jenny, Project Jan open and will serve as a nice appetizer to this electronica feast.
