SXSW Music Updates: Hold Time and Holding Steady
- Cheap ($129) wristbands are now sold out, but wristband.sxsw.com continues to sell $165 wristbands as of Wednesday morning (2/25). So for $41/day, we'd get over there and purchase one fast.
- Urban Outfitters continues their annual series of live performances this year with 'Back Lot Performances', when a series of over 20 bands will visit the retailer during SX. Performers include Vivian Girls, The Wooden Birds, Abe Vigoda, Woman, The Chap, School Of Seven Bells, and Max Tundra.
- Auditorium Shores' free concert lineup has been announced, and Thursday's show is a beauty: M. Ward, Cold War Kids, and Elvis Perkins In Dearland will all perform. As mentioned earlier, The Arc Angels headline Friday along with openers Raul Malo and Bob Schneider, making Friday's bill much like a week at Antone's. Saturday's bill features kid's music during the day and both Explosions In The Sky and Beach House in the evening. These shows are free, open to the public, and hugely popular - so go early if you'd like to be up close.
- M. Ward isn't just bringing his sounds to Auditorium Shores. He'll also hit the Village Voice party Friday at La Zona Rosa along with Cursive, Gomez, and Bear Hands. Last year this party had free fajitas, so hey - M. Ward and tacos. Nicely done.
- It's not free, but Roky Erickson's Psychedelic Ice Cream Social is back this year at Threadgill's and isn't lacking in talent. The show hosts Roky, Meat Puppets, Heartless Bastards, and Ray Wylie Hubbard, with others to be announced. Tickets are $25 at FrontGate Tickets.
- Quack Media and Found Magazine are throwing a hell of a party at Red 7 on 3/19. Headliners The Hold Steady anchor a great bill which also has Lucero, No Age, The Tallest Man On Earth, The Hard Lessons, and Great Lakes Myth Society. The show is all ages and runs noon to 6.
- Finally, noted music blogger Aquarium Drunkard is getting a head start on SX Music by hosting a night showcase during SX Interactive on 3/14. The free gig has Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears and White Denim along with American Prices.
