Octopi in the Alamo: The Octopus Project Presents Visual Music

With the ubiquitous Octo-Mom all over the news (and when we say “news,” we mean the trashy mags in the supermarket line), we got to thinking that eight is a pretty bitchin' number for a lot of reasons.

Yes, the number eight is pretty cool, as demonstrated by spiders, that card game Crazy 8s, the film Eight Men Out (love us some Cusack!), the month of August, playing 8 ball at a dive bar, and the symbol for infinity (when it’s on its side, anyway). But there’s one more cool thing we can think of. We’re talking of course about local noise rockers and Austin Music Award winners The Octopus Project.

Wednesday, February 25, The Octopus Project and the Alamo Drafthouse are combining experimental rock and experimental film into one amazingly unique, kooky concoction of coolness (alliteration! Ho!). They’ve actually sat down and watched short films from the last 70 years, picked the ones they liked the most…and wrote new scores for them!

Come down and take a walk on the experimental side—since the number eight is so hot right now, perhaps that is the number of films TOP has re-scored. In any case, it’s one night only, and considering that the music has been composed just for this event, it's not something you can see (or hear) anywhere else.
