Gerson Ochoa-Hernandez is accused of attacking 75-year-old Shirley Pitts, who had just arrived back at her North Austin apartment and was taking groceries out of her car. Ochoa-Hernandez, who may have been using an ice cream cart as part of his disguise, forcibly entered Pitts' apartment, and according to the official report, knocked her to floor and proceeded to beat her half a dozen times. When Ochoa-Hernandez attempted to take her car keys, Pitts hit the 'panic' button on the keyless remote, alerting her son and his girlfriend, who live nearby.
In a fitting twist, the tables were turned when the younger couple arrived to rescue Pitts. Ochoa-Hernandez, in a panic, fled the scene with ice cream cart in tow, screaming "Please don't kill me!" while throwing cash at the couple.
The suspect was caught a few blocks away, and now faces a life sentence in prison if convicted. Pitts suffered some scrapes and bruises,
