On February 17, 4AD will release a 2-disc compilation teeming with independent talent. >Dark Was the Night, a collection of songs curated by the Dessner brothers of National fame, is three years in the making and is a benefit record for the Red Hot Organization. Now in its 20th year, Red Hot aims to raise awareness and financial support for AIDS and HIV awareness world-wide.

The album is a veritable who's who of indie rock, featuring songs by Arcade Fire, Sufjan Stevens, Kronos Quartet, Cat Power, Andrew Bird, Spoon and the National among many others. There's also a handful of special collaborative treats: Feist sits in with Grizzly Bear, Jose Gonzalez loans his voice to the Books, and David Byrne teams up with the Dirty Projectors for a song. Two discs and thirty-one songs hardly seems like enough with this kind of talent.

To celebrate and help to raise local awareness, Austinist has teamed up with 4AD, Insound and AIDS Services of Austin's Viva Las Vegas event (taking place Sat. Feb 21 @ Austin Music Hall) to host a listening party and happy hour on the album's release date, February 17th. Join us at the Mohawk indoors beginning at 5 p.m. and listen to the album in its entirety while enjoying free and dirt-cheap beers after a hard day's work. Donations will be taken for AIDS services of Austin, and we'll be giving out prizes throughout the event.

We'll start today, with a contest for a copy of the album. Fill out the form for your chance to win a copy of the 2xCD, to be distributed at the event on Feb. 17. Follow the jump to sample tracks from Dirty Projectors, Bon Iver and Anni Rossi.

This contest is closed, but there will be another!
