SXSW Film Weekly Roundup [SXSW]
Mark Duplass and Joshua Leonard in Humpday.
- ICYMI The full lineup was announced last week. Although we may be post-mumblecore at this juncture with the addition of new Festival Producer Janet Pierson, there are still many familiar names amongst the 108 features, including Duplass, Karpovsky, Swanburg, Zellner, and Bujalski. Our friends at Slackerwood took a first shot at compiling the films with Austin ties in this year's class and we are pretty excited about all of them, but are most enthusiastic about Best Worst Movie, Sweethearts of the Prison Rodeo and Humpday. As for the non-Austin-linked lineup, let's just say that we have a total inanimate-object-crush on this year's program.
- Dreams really do come true, as Fantastic Fest and SXSW have teamed up to bring the best of genre film to this year's late night hours. In addition to the preexisting Midnighters category, there will also be six additional exclusive features flying the FFest banner, and just to add suspense to excitement, the names are yet to be released. Bring on the eviscerations!
- There's no doubt that a billion SXSWi badges were upgraded to Gold badges last week when it was announced that Steven Hirsch, the founder of Vivid Entertainment, would helm a panel called The Sex-Driven Market, along with a couple of his contract actresses. Putting the "F" in film, so to speak. Hirsch is an incredibly savvy businessman and we couldn't be more excited to hear about his meteoric rise in the adult film industry as Vivid became the gold standard.
- In other panel news, Paul Rudd, Rashida Jones, Jason Segel and John Hamburg, director of this year's opening night film I Love You, Man will host a behind the scenes look at the making of the film and a view into their sick and twisted comical minds. If the Paul Rudd appearance at Fantastic Fest last year is any indication, we may literally die laughing during this panel. Somebody call a doctor!
- Jeffrey Tambor will be hosting an acting workshop. Boom goes the dynamite. (We're hoping that since he has been laying down the smack-guilt-trip on Michael Cera lately regarding his participation in the Arrested Development movie that there will be a cage match in conjunction with this workshop. Cage Match!)
- This Friday is the LAST DAY to get your festival badge at a discounted rate. The Film badge is still the cheapest in the bunch and you get 10 full days of awesomeness. Save yourself some ducats and register today.
