Austin Twestival: Using Twitter for a Good Cause
You already know you can use Twitter to find out what your friends had for lunch, how much the Grammys sucked, or that there's a plane landing in the Hudson River. But this week, some Austin folks are looking to use Twitter for a higher purpose: to help people get clean, safe drinking water.
On Thursday, Aces Lounge will be the site of the local Twestival, one of more than 175 taking place that day. Festivities get under way at 8 pm. The event is designed to bring together Twitter communities and raise money and awareness for charity: water, a nonprofit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations by funding sustainable clean water solutions in areas of greatest need.
If you're not on Twitter, that's OK, you're still welcome. Things will get kicked off at 8 pm, followed by a Sumo Smackdown at 9 pm, a presentation at 10 pm by Glimmer of Hope, a non-profit that drills wells in Africa, and finally a performance by T-Bird and the Breaks.
