Local Environmental Groups Volunteer Day Tomorrow

Three local environmental groups are running assorted outreach efforts tomorrow, and still looking for volunteers to participate:

  • Environment Texas, which works to protect our air, water, and open spaces, is organizing a petition drive to call on Congress to cut oil use by half and promote renewable electricity sources. Volunteers are asked to meet at Environment Texas offices at 11 a.m. and are advised to wear comfortable shoes.
  • The Colorado River Foundation needs folks from 9 a.m. to noon for a beautification project at Wilkerson Park. Meet at the foundation center, take a short tour, then move on to help tame native plants, tidy up xeriscape flowerbeds, and polish water features.
  • The Green Corn Project, which helps people build their own gardens in homes, schools, and community centers, needs help preparing spring garden beds and repairing fences.

Volunteers can find out more info and sign up in person at the new Patagonia store at 316 North Congress Avenue, or call the store at (512) 320-8383. Volunteers are asked to bring their own lunch.
