If Emo's was Public Radio, tonight's event would be the This American Life on their show schedule. Or Radiolab, depending on your flavor. It's that good, and that cheap. Technically, you should be donating to your local public radio affiliate, but that's just common friggin' citizenship. We digress; let's back away slowly from that metaphor...
Now, Corto Maltese have been rocking us all for many moons, and as much as we've enjoyed their old material, the prospect of new material has been titillating ever since we started hearing news that they were working on a new EP (to be released at a show on 3/6.) Until that day, you need to attend their show to hear the fresh content.
Speaking of which, Loxsly has got some brand spankin' new songs of their own, and if you haven't seen them lately, you're missing out on bearing witness to one of Austin's most compelling and satisfying live acts' evolution from scene upstarts to cool uncles. Where once we bobbed our heads to their driving, party-ready pop they're now redefining themselves and their music, entering their Yankee Hotel Foxtrot/Soft Bulletin phase (and our heads continue to bob.)
Oh No Oh My head up the set, an Austin band who has made real good with some ingenious internet-driven promotion and now can brag about it at the family reunion. Always a tight, well-rehearsed act with hooks to spare like excess fliff at a pimp convention. Las Brujas opens!
