The second in the 2009 Harry Ransom Lectures series, which brings internationally renowned "writers, artists, and scholars" to Austin, Thursday's chat comes less than two years after the Centre acquired a hefty collection of Mamet's journals, manuscripts and drafts.
The two will discuss his 1997 film, The Spanish Prisoner, followed by an actual screening.
From our post last year:
For those less familiar, Mamet's work includes the classic plays Glengarry Glen Ross, American Buffalo, Oleanna, and Speed-The-Plow. He has also written and directed a number of films including The Spanish Prisoner, Heist, State and Main, and House Of Games. Mamet also wrote the screenplays for The Untouchables, Wag The Dog, Hoffa, and The Verdict. Mamet has a Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award on his shelf, and is undoubtedly one of the signature voices of his era.
Admission is free, but limited to first-come, first-served. Future Harry Ransom Lecturers include author Azar Nafisi (Reading Lolita in Tehran) and artist Ed Ruscha.

Mamet's most recent directorial effort REDBELT is relatively new on DVD, and among the bonus content is footage from his live onstage interview in Austin last year (or it sure looks like it) when he was talking about his then-new film . . .
