I've never seen so many trying to be so cool. I'll admit, when it was done the first time it was original and very interesting. This was just a good exercise in how to annoy people imo. I'm quite sure the only people clapping were the participants.

Perhaps there's some artistic merit to the flash-mob fad that I'm missing. To me, it's frustrating that people are willing to coordinate and organize over something that doesn't mean ANYTHING, but if you try to get them to organize over something IMPORTANT, they're nowhere to be found (i.e. 2004 presidential election, 2000 light rail vote, etc.). Agreed, it wasn't the best choice. I work at Whole Foods, and I've noticed people don't usually move very fast in the store. They tend to stand, shuffle, wander, and mill around - especially in the prepared foods area - which is why some people didn't even notice the event. The original FlashMob freeze at Grand Central Station was powerful because of the contrast between the FlashMob agents standing perfectly still in a large space, and everyone else rushing past them. People standing still while other squeeze by at a snail's pace? Not so much.
