Catch the Austin Smart Energy Town Hall Meeting Online Tonight
Austin Energy's "Smart Energy" project is a long-term plan, through the year 2020, to ramp up our use of renewable resources such as biomass, wind, and solar power. Its goal isn't to eliminate the current use of coal, nuclear, or gas plants in the next decade—simply put, this would be trying to accomplish too much, too soon—but rather to come up with a reasonable way of generating the extra 300 megawatts or so that we'll probably need by then. The plan is also predicated on the assumption that we'll be able to optimize a good portion of our current energy use by adopting better energy-efficiency and load-shifting programs.
AE is hosting a town hall meeting tonight at City Hall, which you can participate in via their live online broadcast. You can also submit questions by calling in (512-974-5597). The meeting will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
